Was Sie ohne ihn brauchen
There is one supplier who knows your processes, your prices and your deadlines. That is convenient — and it is also the relationship you would least want to lose suddenly. Dependency rarely announces itself; it grows quietly through “we have always done it this way”.
How it gets tight
Short-notice requests start getting “not possible”. Prices change without a conversation. There is exactly one contact person, and they are always busy. Your alternatives are older than a year, because asking for quotes felt like disloyalty. Each sign alone means little; three together mean you have one supplier.
What you need without them
Three things, written down: current prices and terms, a second source for the top three things you buy, and where the data and records actually live. None of this requires switching suppliers. All of it takes an afternoon.
The conversation that is missing
Not a confrontation — a check. What capacity do you have in the next six months? What happens if an order arrives late? Who is the second contact when the first is away? A supplier who answers these calmly is a partner; one who treats the question as an attack is a risk you just measured.
Independence is not betrayal. It is maintenance — and it is cheapest before you need it.
