Drei Zeilen, feste Uhrzeit

In small teams the project status lives in heads — in the boss’s head and in the employees’ heads. So the boss asks: “Where are we?” — interrupting whoever is on the phone. And the answer is verbal, so it only counts for those who happened to be there.

Three lines, fixed time

A standard of three lines: done, next, blocked. At the same time, in the same channel, every working day. Why three? Because those are exactly the three questions the boss asks — and because they take one minute to answer in writing.

Written instead of in the hallway

Spoken words only count for people present; absent colleagues hear them later, distorted or not at all. Written in one place: absent people read along, old answers stay searchable, and nobody has to tell the same information twice. The resistance of “too much paper” lasts about two weeks — then nobody wants to miss it.

Report deviations only

“All on track” is not worth a line. What gets reported is what changed: a shift, a blocker, a decision someone needs. That makes the update short — and readable. An update that is the same length every day eventually stops being opened altogether.

When it stops helping

Three people in one room who see everything anyway? Then one line a week is enough. The test is simple: does anyone ask “where are we?” — there are too few updates. Is the update not read — it is too long. Fixed time, three lines, deviations: that is all a small team needs to replace the status in heads.

Her gün aynı saatte, aynı kanalda, iş günleri.
