Almost every page has a list on it: feature by feature, step by step. It is honest, and it sells to nobody. Your customer does not buy what the product can do, but what is different on Monday morning.

One feature, one sentence

Take one feature and write one sentence: before this, after that. No adjective, no “seamless”. “Before, somebody spent an hour finding the current status; now it is one line” — the customer can check that. And only sentences he can check are remembered.

The jargon test

Hand the sentence to somebody from another department. If the same sentence could stand on your next competitor's page, it is not a result, it is a claim. Cross it out, write it again. A result only you can phrase belongs in the headline.

The result in the headline

The headline carries the result, the features sit below it. One page, one result. Whoever puts three results side by side has chosen none — and the customer is choosing elsewhere meanwhile.

The three-sentence check

Read the page to somebody outside the team and ask: what changes for you? If the answer is made of features, the page is not finished. If the answer is one sentence they can present on Monday, it is.
