Ten minutes before the meeting, three people stand in front of the room screen with a cable and no idea. The screen works — the connection does not. Four checks fix most of it, in this order.

Cable first, theory second

Most “wireless” problems are a loose HDMI cable and the wrong input. Press the source button until the laptop's picture appears; push the cable until it sits; if nothing comes, a second cable or a second port tells you whether the cable or the screen is the problem. Do this before the meeting, not during it.

If it is wireless: one network, one device

Casting fails when the laptop sits on the guest network and the screen on the office one — they cannot see each other. Put both on the same network, and expect the first wireless connection to ask for permission on the laptop; that prompt is invisible if nobody knows to look for it. Dongles in the room should have one home, not a drawer.

So it never jams again

A tested cable taped to the table, a printed card with the three steps, and one person who owns the room. A screen that works every time is not a technology achievement, it is a habit.

The meeting does not start when the clock says so. It starts when the picture does.
