Everything else arrives, only that one address does not: the invoice from the accountant, the supplier's reply, the application. Often there is no hacker involved, but a rule somebody set months ago that is still quietly working — in silence, without an error message.

First: is it really only this one address?

Test with two other senders whether messages get through. If those arrive and the one address does not, the cause is on the receiving side. If nothing arrives at all, it is something else — then this list does not help, then it is about server or connection. That one question saves half the search, and it costs three minutes.

Look through spam and quarantine folders

Most “missing” emails sit in the spam folder or in a quarantine your provider sets up and nobody ever talks about. Search for the sender's name and for one word from the message in question. If anything is found, mark it as not spam — once is usually enough to stop the rule filing the sender away again straight away.

Rules nobody has deleted

Check the filters in the mailbox, in the spam protection and in any additional systems. Especially dangerous are rules that forward, delete or sort into a folder without anybody today knowing who created them. One pass is enough: read the rule, understand its purpose, touch it only when it is clear why it exists.

When the sender is on a black list

Sometimes the cause is at the sender's end: his address or his server are on a list and your side rejects them outright. Ask the sender whether he received a delivery confirmation and let him test in peace — two parties changing things at the same time never find the cause. Only then look at the black list, and only if the suspicion is concrete.
