Nichts wandert still weiter.

Liste drei: was schiefging, und was Sie geändert haben

The end of the year is the cheapest time to take stock: nothing urgent happens in the last two weeks of December, and the alternative — doing it in January, when the year is already new — always costs more. Three lists, one hour, paper is fine.

List one: what you pay for

Every subscription, tool and contract, with what it costs per month and when it renews. Go through it once: what earns its money, what duplicates something else, what nobody has opened since spring. Cancel two things and you have paid for the hour.

List two: what is still open

The offer you never sent, the invoice nobody chased, the conversation you postponed twice. Write them down as they come — the list is usually longer than you expect. Rule: everything on it gets a date in January or gets struck out. Nothing carries over silently.

List three: what went wrong, and what you changed

Three things that went badly this year and one sentence each about what you changed. Not self-blame — a record. Next December you will know whether the change worked, and that is knowledge almost nobody in your size of company has.

Why paper

A spreadsheet for this becomes its own project. Paper has no login, no notifications and no setup — the hour stays an hour. Put the three sheets in the folder where January starts, and the year begins with answers instead of questions.
